- Wetzel County, West Virginia Obituary
John E. Bassett, 73, of Route 1, Middlebourne, West Virginia, died Tuesday, January 19, 2000, at home. He was a retired farmer and timber worker, a former employee of Ormet Corp., Hannibal, Ohio, a member of the Community Lighthouse Church, Sisterville, West Virginia, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Fisher Bassett; his parents, Elisha and Katherine Bassett; four brothers; and four sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Ivy McCoy Bassett; ten sons, Roger of Tiskiliwa, Illinois, John of Middlebourne, DeWayne at home, Terry, David and Keith, all of Maucatine, Iowa; Scott of Ennis, Texas, Clyde of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Donald and James McCoy both of Alvy; five daughters, Lorene Eddy of Paden City, West Virginia, Janice Ellington of Charleston, West Virginia, Sandra Ferguson of Middleborune, Brenda Deem of Parkersburg, West Virginia, DeAnna Ranberger of Muscatine, Iowa; two brothers, Lee Bassett of Reader, West Virginia, Irvin Bassett of Sisterville, West Virginia; 29 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2000, at Furbee Funeral Home, Middlebourne, West Virginia. Interment followed in Simpson Cemetery, Middlebourne with military graveside services by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 5327.
