Capt. Bessette Of Police Dies
Central Falls Dept. Member 21 Years Was In His 60th Year
Capt. Romeo W. Bessett, a member of the Central Falls Plice Department for 21 years died last night in Notre Dame Hospital, Central Falls, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Helena (O?Connor) Bessette. He was 59 years old.
Born in Canada, June 27, 1895, he was the son of the late Philip and Herman (LeClerc) Bessette. Before he was appointed to the police department Capt. Bessette conducted a furniture business on Dexter Street. He resided at 1098 Lonsdale Ave., Central Falls.
He was appointed to the Central Falls department April 11, 1934; was promoted to sergeant Nov. 14, 1946, and to captain Jan. 17, 1951. He was a member of the Central Falls School Committee prior to his appointment to the police department.
He was a World War I veteran and served with the 26th Infantry Division in France. He belonged to the LeFebvre Post, VFW, Central Falls, the Fraternal Order of Police of that city and the Pawtucket Lodge of Elks. He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves three brothers, Edeas and Lorenzo of Central Falls and Harvy Bessette of Pawtucket; three daughters, Mrs. Joseph L. Jabotte of Central Falls, Mrs. James A. SHea and Mrs. James F. McKee, both of Valley Falls; two sisters, Mrs. Edward Gagnon of Passaic, N.J., and Mrs. Walter Dean of Lynn, Mass.; and ten grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
