Services held for Lela E. Bassett
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 1, at 3:00 P.M. from the Arnold First Pabtist Church for Lela E. Bassett who passed away on march 29, 1974 at her home in Arnold.
Rev. Carl Malmgren officiated at the services.
Mrs. Wes Larreau sang "How Great Thou Art" and "When We All Get To Heaven" accompanied by Mrs. Gerald Harter at the organ.
Bearers were Denny Bassett, Glenn Bassett, Walter Bassett, Calvin lake, Melvin Lade and Larry Thompson.
Interment was in the Arnold Cemetery with Quigg and Tickle Funeral Serivce in charge of arrangements.
Lela Bassett was born south of Arnold to Ralph and Lilace Judkins Williams on June 5, 1899.
The family lived in Iowa for about ten years when Lela was a child, and they returned to Nebraska where her father homesteaded northwest of Stapleton for five years. They then moved back to Arnold.
She was married to Sidney Bassett on December 28, 1922. They lived several places, but returned to Arnold in 1928 and have made their home here since.
Besides her husband, Sidney, she leaves three children, Mrs. Charles (Ardis) Roth of Callaway; Richard of Arnold; and Mrs. Al (Jeanette) Andrew of North Platte; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Guy Williams of Laramie, Wyoming; and Ralph Williams of McCook, Nebraska; six sisters, Frances Bassett of North Platte; Lilace Gies of Grand Island; Lottie Lade of Hazard; Verda Thompson and Larine Thompson, North Platte and Lavera Kock, Omaha; plus many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first child, who died at birth, her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Lela was a member of the First Baptist Church, and was active in all phases of church work.
