Dexter P. Bassett, Sr.
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Dexter P. Bassett, Sr., age 86, passed away November 6, 1995. Born February 14, 1909 in Salt Lake City, to Don Carlos Bassett and Charlotte Goss. Graduated from East High School in 1927, and attended the University of Utah. He married Esther Teerlink Shepherd in 1947 and and they resided in Layton, Kaysville, and since 1979 in Midvale.
He worked for Curtis Publishing for many years. He was an aircraft maintenance foreman at Hill Air Force Base during World War II. After the war he worked for Utah/Star Valley Dairy in Layton for 30 years. Dexter had a "green thumb" and always grew a large garden. He enjoyed traveling with Esther in his retirement years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, and his children, Gary Penney (Prudy), Scottsdale, Arizona; Barbaran Jensen (Dallin), Salt Lake; Alan Bassett (Pamela), South Jordan; Sylvia Purdy (Bob), Fruit Heights; Charlotte Andrus (Brent), Kaysville; Dexter Bassett, Jr. (Linda) Caldwell, Idaho; Don Bassett (Roe), Perry, Utah. Also surviving are stepchildren, Pat Billis (Mike), South Jordan; Dan Shepherd (Chris), Farmington; Elenora Touchette, Bountiful; Lynn Shepherd (Gloria), Sandy; 37 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph and Don Carlos Bassett, Jr.; and by a stepson, Carl John Shepherd.
Funeral services Thursday, November 9, 11 a.m., Midvale 7th LDS Ward, 642 Jackson Street (8300 South 300 West). Friends may call at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Wednesday 6-8 p.m. and Thursday at the ward one hour prior to services. Interment, Midvale City Cemetery.
