E.N. Bassett Of Bristol Succumbs To Apoplexy
Native of This City Stricken While at Depot with Friend
And Becomes Un-conscious on Reaching Home
Edwin H. Bassett of Bristol, who was born in Elkhart sixty-three years ago and was the father of Clyde Bassett of this city, died at his home in Bristol at 1:15 o'clock this morning as the result of an apoplectic stroke which he suffered last Friday. In addition to the son, the survivors are his wife, Sarah; three grandchildren, and a sister, the wife of Rev. A.L. Lamport of New Paris.
The funeral is to be held Thursday with services at the home at 2:30 and burial in the cemetery at Bristol. Rev. Dale C. Beaty of the Methodist church will officiate. The Bristol lodge of Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias will have charge.
Mr. Bassett who in early manhood was a millwright, located at Bristol many years ago. In recent years he had managed a number of cottages he owned on the east shore of Baldwin lake.
Last Friday he and Milo Ganger of Elkhart returned from that lake to the Bassett home, and then Mr. Bassett accompanied Mr. Ganger to the Valley line depot. "I guess I won't wait till the car comes," he said. "I'll go home, my head hurts terribly." Reaching home he lay on a couch while his wife prepared a bed for his use. Before she had finished he became unconscious and fell off the couch. He never regained consciousness.
