- Mary Ellen McGinnis
Mary Ellen (Bassett) McGinnis was born in Phelps County, Missouri November 11, 1868. She departed this life at the home her daughter Mrs. Blanche Coleman in St. James December 4th, 1944. Age 76 years and 22 days.
On October 22, 1886 she was united in marriage to William McGinnis. To this union thirteen children were born. Her husband preceded her in death August 16, 1925. Two of her children were called to their eternal home, one in infancy, and one girl Margrett, at the age of thirteen.
The children living are Hugh McGinnis of Maplewood, Mo., Mrs. Mae Blender of Stronghurst, Ill, Mrs. Maud Schultz of Cuba, Mo., Roy McGinnis of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Agnes Parker of Parson, Kansas, Mrs. Blanche Coleman of St. James, Mo., Mike McGinnis, Mrs. Ann Gorman of St. James, Mo., Mrs. Etta Gorman of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Mary Eatherton of St. Louis, Mo. and Mrs. Irene Fishter of St. Louis, Mo.
Beside her children she leaves 21 grandchildren, eight of whom are serving their country in the armed forces. She also leaves six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. and Mrs. McGinnis lived the most of their lives in Phelps County. After the death of her husband she spent the remainder of her life in St. James.
She was converted to the Lord Jesus Christ early in life and lived a life of helpfulness. She was a good companion to her husband and a good mother to her children. Mrs. McGinnis was broad in her concept of religion, and tolerant with those who did not agree with her. To know her was to love her. She will be sadly missed by all her friends and loved ones.
The funeral service was conducted at the Licklider Funeral Parlot in St. James, Mo., Wednesday at 2 o'clock p.m., with burial in the Adams cemetery. Rev. E.D. Johnson officiated. Two solos were sung by Harriet Beesley, accompanied by Mary Gravatt at the piano.
