Lewis W. Bass
Funeral services for Lewis Weldon Bass, 71, of 3206-A Galasson Street, who died Saturday night in Durham Rehabilitation Center, were held at 2 p.m. today in Siloam Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Bass family cemetery.
He was a retired gardener at Duke University.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Virgie Torain Bass; three sons, John Thomas Bass of Baltimore and Ervin Bass and Joe Lewis Bass, both of Durham; three daughters, Mrs. Francis Clayton of Hurdle Mills, Mrs. Dorothy Thorpe of Durham and Mrs. Virgaline Nesmith of Rochester, New York; a brother, William “Buck” Bass of Rougemont; a sister, Mrs. Elsie Ford of Rougemont, and nine grandchildren.
