Edmund Bassett Browning
Edmund Bassett Browning, 81, died August 31, 1992 in Salt Lake City. He was born August 18, 1911 in Ogden to Archibald and Frances Bassett Browning. He married Blanche Rogers; she died in 1976. They had two children, Joan Slotboom of Centerville, and Penni Browning of Yuba City, California. He married Dorothy Jamison Morgan in 1977. He was educated in Salt Lake City public schools and attended the University of Utah, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps in World War II, serving in Guam and Iwo Jima. His life's work was with Arch Browning, Inc., the oldest automobile dealership in Utah when tthe business was closed in 1969. He was a golfer, a lifelong outdoorsman, and, until recent years, an active skier as a member of the Wild Old Bunch. The descendant of several early Utah families, he maintained a lively interest in the history of Utah and the west. He was a member of the Rotary and the Utah Westerners. He is survived by his wife; his daughters; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Ruthann Browning Ricks of Miami, Florida. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 3, 11 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 So. Highland Dri., Salt Lake City, with viewing at the mortuary Wednesday, September 2, from 7-8 p.m. and Thursday from 10-11 a.m. Burial, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
