Mrs. Paul Bassette Native of Canada
Mrs. Clara Bertha Bassette, 89, widow of Paul Bassette, died about 4:30 yesterday afternoon at her home at 417 Slate Road, following a long illness. She would have been 90 next Aug. 16.
She was born in St. Hyacinth, Canada, and had lived in North Adams the last 50 years. Prior to moving to this city, she had lived 20 years in Adams. She was a member of Holy Family Church in the Greylock section and was active in the former St. Anne Society, now St. Anne’s Guild, while her health permitted.
She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Joseph J. Brainerd of New Orleans, La., Mrs. Wilfred Saulnier and Miss Roma Bassett of this city; four sons, Frank, Armand and Leo of North Adams, and George Bassette of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m., with a Solemn High Mass of Requiem in Holy Family Church. Burial will be in the family lot in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours at the San Soucie Funeral Home will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., today.
The family has requested the omission of flowers. Friends may donate to the Cancer Fund in Mrs. Bassette’s memory.

State Road Couple Married 50 Years
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bassette Entertained at Family
Gathering to Mark Golden Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bassetts of 417 State road celebrated their golden wedding anniversary yesterday with a quiet family gathering at their home.
Most of their children and grandchildren were present for the affair and many friends also extended their congratulations.
Mr. and Mrs. Bassett were married in Adams by Rev. Triganne, then pastor of Notre Dame church there, and spent the first 20 years of their married life in that town where Mr. Bassette was employed at the Berkshire mills. They moved to Greylock 30 years ago and have resided there ever since. Mr. Bassette retired four years ago after working in the card room at the Greylock mill more than a quarter of a century. He was born in St. John, Canada, 79 years ago and Mrs. Bassette in Quebec 71 years ago. Both are in excellent health.
Of their 12 children the seven living are Mrs. J.J. Brainard of New Orleans, La., and Misses Mary and Roma Bassette, and George, Frank, Armand and Leo Bassette, all of this city. They have six grandchildren. Both are members of Holy Family parish in Greylock and he is a member of the Sacred Heart society and the oldest member of the Greylock Community club while Mrs. Bassette is a member of the St. Anne society of the church.
