Most of their children and grandchildren were present for the affair and many friends also extended their congratulations. Mr. and Mrs. Bassett were married in Adams by Rev. Triganne, then pastor of Notre Dame church there, and spent the first 20 years of their married life in that town where Mr. Bassette was employed at the Berkshire mills. They moved to Greylock 30 years ago and have resided there ever since. Mr. Bassette retired four years ago after working in the card room at the Greylock mill more than a quarter of a century. He was born in St. John, Canada, 79 years ago and Mrs. Bassette in Quebec 71 years ago. Both are in excellent health. Of their 12 children the seven living are Mrs. J.J. Brainard of New Orleans, La., and Misses Mary and Roma Bassette, and George, Frank, Armand and Leo Bassette, all of this city. They have six grandchildren. Both are members of Holy Family parish in Greylock and he is a member of the Sacred Heart society and the oldest member of the Greylock Community club while Mrs. Bassette is a member of the St. Anne society of the church. Springfield Union, July 20, 1953 North Adams Paul J. Bassette North Adams, July 19 – Paul Joseph Bassette, 85 retired cotton textile worker and resident of Three Rivers when a young man, died suddenly this morning at his home in 417 State Rd., Greylock, after nearly seven weeks’ illness. Born at St. Jean, Canada, he came here 37 years ago from Adams and before retirement was 60 years a mule spinner in Berkshire Mills. He was a member of Holy Family Church, Greylock, where the funeral Tuesday at 9 will be followed by burial in Southview Cemetery. The body is at L.L. San Soucie funeral home. Surviving are Mr. Bassett’s wife, the former Clara La Croix; three daughters, Mrs. Harriet Brainerd of New Orleans, La., Mrs. Wilfred Shartrand of North Adams and Miss Roma Bassett of Atlanta, Ga.; four sons, George of Pittsfield, Armand, Leo and Frank of this city; two sisters, Mrs. Clovis Massier of Chicopee and Mrs. Alphosine Barber of Holyoke; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
