Sylvester A. Bass
Funeral services for Mr. Bass, 20, of 1401 West Thirty-ninth street, who died Monday afternoon at a local hospital of a stab wound sustained New Year?s Eve, were conducted yesterday afternoon at 2 o?clock at the residence of his sister, Mrs. J.W. Whitehead, at 842 West Thirty-fifth street. The Rev. W.H. Garman, pastor of Old Zion Christian Church, officiated. The casket was covered with a pall of pink roses, white carnations, baby?s breath and fern, and there were many floral tributes. The funeral was laregely attended.
During the services James E. White sand ?Lay My Head Beneath a Rose,? the choir of Old Zion Church sand ?Rock of Ages,? and the Misses Myrtle and Pauline Gunter sang ?No Disappointment in Heaven.?
Pallbearers were Vernie, Justin, Goldie, Albert, Lensey and Ernest Bass, all cousins of the deceased. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
