Hiram Victor Bass
Graveside service for Mr. Hiram Victor Bass, age 88, of Nacogdoches will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2006, at Bethel Cemetery in Appleby with Bro. Bill Sherrill officiating. Mr. Bass passed away Monday, February 27, 2006, in Nacogdoches. Born September 28, 1917, in Appleby, he was the son of Dora Gardner Bass and Zack Taylor Bass. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and continued to serve his country as a life member of the Nacogdoches V.F.W. Post 3893. Mr. Bass owned and operated Bass Grocery and Market on North Street during the 1950s. He later worked in sales and service of Mercury Outboard Motors, then owned and operated Bass Mobile Home Sales. The outdoors is where he loved to be while enjoying hunting and the fish for fish-fry gatherings he would throw welcoming any one who would show. He loved his family, friends and the Lord. Mr. Bass was a member of North Street Church of Christ. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Tessie Bass of Etoile; daughters, Ina Dora Bass of Center, Vicki and the late James Mack Gibbs of Nacogdoches; Sharon and her husband, Bob Phillips, of Nacogdoches and "adopted" son and daughter, Kenneth and Sylvia Shotwell of Nacogdoches. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his wife, Ouida Davis Bass; his son, Mike Bass and his son-in-law, James Mack Gibbs. Memorial donations may be made to Church of Christ, Building Fund, 3914 North Street, Nacogdoches, Texas 75965. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2006. Laird Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
