Edwin Wakefield
On Wednesday morning, December 3d, at the home of his niece, Mrs. F.S. Ainsworth, 46 Henry Street, Norwich, occurred the death of Edwin Wakefield.
Edwin was the eldest of six children born to Elmore and Sarah (Bassett) Wakefield. He was born near Laurens, Otsego county, October 22, 1838, and was therefore past eighty-one years of age. He was ordinarily well and active up to about two years ago when he suffered an illness which, owing to his advanced age, left him in an enfeebled condition. Since that time he had gradually failed in strength until the end. Never having married, he had made his home much of the time for the past few years with the family of the above mentioned niece.
He cared not for display yet no worthy cause ever appealed to him in vain and many and many an act of charity and benevolence will be placed to his credit in the final accounting which are not generally known to the public.
His brother, Hezikiah Wakefield, of Edmeston, is the only surviving member of his family. There are several nephews and nieces.
Burial was made Saturday, in the cemetery at Edmeston.
