Death of John Bassett, Esq.
We regret to record the death, on Wednesday evening last, of John Bassett, Esq., Proprietor of the Limerick Chronicle, after an illness of seven days, at the age of 51 years. He was attached, for very many years, to the journal of which, on the death of the late Alderman Watson, he became the owner. As an employer, a neighbour, and a friend, Mr. Bassett stood high in the esteem of those who best knew him; whilst as a man of business he was energetic, active, and punctual in the discharge of his duties. He was one of the representatives of the Glentworth Ward in the Town Council. His remains, accompanied to the Churchyard of St. Munchin’s, by the Mayor and members of the Corporation, will be removed for interment on tomorrow morning at eight o’clock.
