Mary T. Bassett
Mary Theresa Bassett, loving wife of Jesse Bert Bassett, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2016, at Parkway Pavilion in Enfield, CT. She was born August 15, 1913, in Stone Creek, Ohio, and was the daughter of Dominik Pickenstein and Anna (Remos) Pickensein. She moved to Enfield, 12 years ago, and became a member of the United Methodist Church. Her passion first and always, was caring for her family, but she was quick to bake a cake for anyone's birthday, or put together an impromptu dinner for a neighbor. She continued reading the newspaper (out loud) and remained looking forward throughout her life, gracing Parkway Pavilion with her wit and Midwestern sensibilities. As part of the "Greatest Generation" she shone as the family matriarch and became our north star. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Daniels and spouse Nathan, and a brother, James Garland of Cleveland, OH; 5 grandchildren, Dennis J. Saienni, III and spouse Sandy, Julie Ann Saienni, Anthony Saienni, Raven and Shauna Bassett; 9 great grandchildren, Ashley Saienni-Karcz, Isabelle Saienni, Samuel Saienni, Stephanie Saienni; Jessica, Zackary, Caleb, Jacob, and Anthony Saienni. She leaves many nieces and nephews whom she corresponded with until a few years ago. Mary was predeceased by a son, Donald Jess Bassett, and 5 brothers and sisters. A celebration of her life will be held Monday, March 21, at the United Methodist Church, 14 Brainard Rd., Enfield, CT at 10:00 a.m. Everyone is asked to go directly to the church. The burial will follow at Somers Center Cemetery, Somers, CT. Calling hours are Sunday evening 6-8 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. Donations in Mary's memory may be made to the Parkway Pavilion Resident Fund, 1157 Enfield St., Enfield, CT. 06082. Her family would like to thank all of the folks at Parkway Pavilion for their devotion to her care. For online expressions of sympathy or condolences, please visit www.leetestevens.com.
