Benjamin Edward Bass, Jr., 83, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021 at his home in Moss Bluff, La. He was born Dec. 31, 1937.
Ben is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sherry Nell Smith; their children, Erica Roach, Belinda Taylor, Janell Blackmon, and Benjamin Bass III, grandchildren Lee Lyons, Robert Landers, Taylor Roach, M'lyn Roach, Kari Gibson, Lauren Sabrowsky, Kristin Bass, Keeley Taylor, and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Edward Bass Sr. and Hazel Mae Laughlin Bass; his sisters, Hazel Louise Harrell and Dorothy Marie Lasker.
Ben was a graduate of Westlake High School Class of 1956. He was a running back on the Westlake Rams' 1955 Louisiana State Championship team. Ben worked as an instrument technician at Conoco, Vista, and Sasol. In his retirement he worked as a security guard.
Ben was a die-hard LSU football fan. He loved cheering on the Tigers, even recording games and re-watching. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, gardening, coaching his daughters' softball teams, and distance cycling.
Per Ben's request, there will be no funeral services. Ashes will be placed at the Magnolia Cemetery in Westlake, La, by his family at a later date to celebrate his life.
