Know all that I Edmund S Bass of the county and state aforesaid do make and appoint the following my last will and testament in manner and form following.
Item 1st. I give devise and bequeath onto my beloved wife Elizabeth H Bass during her natural life or widowhood the 1/3rd part in value of my estate to be laid out and assigned to her in such property as she may select in real estate and Negroes and such other property as may (be) necessary for her comfort - if my said wife should marry, then it is my will and desire that she should receive a child part of my estate absolutely - but in the event that she should remain unmarried at her death I wish her portion of the said 1/3 part to be divided between my children equally to wit James Bass, Ann Dickson, Elizabeth Hurt, Milton, George W, Rebecca Ann and Sarah S Bass under the like restrictions and limitations as here to after pointed out for other property.
Item 2. I give devise and bequeath to my son George W Bass that portion of the Ingram tract of land line North of the road leading to the Meeting House continuing about 460 acres more or less also the following Negroes Wilkes and Lelian.
Item 3. I give and bequeath to my sons George W Bass and Milton Bass in trust to and for the use of my daughter Rebecca Ann during her life, should she die without marrying then as hereafter expressed, should she die without any child or children leaving a husband surviving her then in trust to and for the use of her husband during life, and after his death then to go as hereinafter directed, in the event of her death without marrying; should she die leaving a child or children then to go to such child or children absolutely the following property to wit Negroes named Chancey and Caroline also the Piano? Forte now in her possession.
Item 4. I give and bequeath to my sons Milton Bass and George W Bass and trust to and for the use of my daughter Sarah in the same manner and under the like restrictions and limitations as herein made to property given to Rebecca, the following property to wit Negroes Winnie and Celia and also one Piano Forte or the value thereof.
Item 5. I devise to my said sons Milton and George W Bass in trust to and for the use of my son John I Bass during life and after his death to his children one tract of land lying in the County containing about 413 acres adjoining Muse and Waller.
Item 6. It is my will and desire that after my just debts are paid, my wife receives her portion in my estate and legacies herein before given or deducted that the balance of my estate be equally divided between the following of my children to wit James Bass, Ann Dickson, Elizabeth Hurt, Milton Bass, Rebecca Ann Bass, Sarah S Bass, & George W Bass, the portion of Rebecca and Sarah given to and limited to like uses as expressed in the third and fourth clauses of my will in the event of either of them dying before marrying, then to be ...... according to the property given in this clause to the survivors - the share given to Ann Dickson. I hereby give and bequeath the same to my sons Milton & George W Bass in trust to and for like uses as pointed out in clauses giving property for the benefit of Rebecca & Sarah.
Item 7. I have given nothing herein to my son Edmund S Bass believing what I have already given him and paid for him about equal with my other children. I view that with him and my son John I (Bass), I have done about the same as with my other children.
Item 8. I nominate constitute and appointment my sons Milton, James I, & George W Bass executors to this my last will and testament hereby revoking any former wills by me made. Signed in our presence & by us in the presence of testators this 30th May 1842.

Codicil to the last will and testament of Edmund S Bass deceased.
Item 1. It is my will and desire that the Ingram tract of land or that portion of it which is devised to my son George W Bass in the second Item of my Will at my death instead of going to my son George W as directed that it be considered as a part of my state to be disposed of under the remaining part of my said Will, having executed to my son George W Bass deeds to other lands which I directed and design in lieu of the said portion of the Ingram tract. In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand & affixed my seal, this 5th day of Feby 1843. Edmund S. Bass (seal)
