Wedding Bells Mark the Years (Includes pictures)
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph T. Bessette, 5648 Aberdeen st., celebrated their golden wedding anniversary recently by attending a mass of thangskigving in Visitation church followed by a breakfast for 14 members of their immediate family in the Paradise hall, 5139 Dame Ave. More than 125 persons honored the copule there that evening at a reception.
Mrs. Bessette and her husband were both born in Chicago. She is the former Barbara Vogler and will be 72 years old June 26. Her husband will be 78 years old August 15. They were married in St. John the Baptist church.
The couple has a son, Joseph M. Bessette, of Lemont and a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Effort, who lives at home. There are four grandchildren, Joseph Bessette of Skokie, Mrs. Margaret Dawon, 6025 Hermitage ave., Mrs. Eleanor Hodgen of Los Angeles and Raymond Erfort, who lives at home. The six great-grandchildren include William Dawson, Daniel, Michael and Susan Bessette of Skokie and Michael and Theresa Hodgen of Los Angeles.
Among the guests at the event were Mrs. Bessette’s sister, Mrs. Mary Vogler, 8104 Sangamon st., and their brother, Andrew Vogler, 5421 Marshfield ave., who with his wife, who was too ill to attend the party, attended the couple 50 years ago and Mr. Bessette’s sister, Mrs. Edna Newsome, 7135 Parnell ave. Their sisters, Mrs. Eleanor Houde, Mrs. Carrie Lamountain and Mrs. Josephine Page, all of Los Angeles, were unable to be present.
Mr. Bessette retired six year ago as a truck driver for Armour and company after 53 years of service.
