  Notes	Sir Francis Basset was a Knight of Tehidy. He was a strenuous Royalist. He was sheriff and vice-admiral of Cornwall during the greater part of the rebellion. Owing to his expenses in support of the Royal cause, and his being obliged to compound for his estate with the Parliament, he was compelled to sell St. Michael's Mount and other property. HIs descendants therefore were distressed for many years after the Civil War. His portrait by Vandyck is preserved at Tehidy.
