Robert Bass
AYDEN - Mr. Robert Wayne Bass, Sr., 74, passed into God's loving arms, Friday, December 11, 2020, surrounded by loving family.
The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 1:30 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in the Ayden Cemetery.
Robert was born and raised in Chowan County. He worked at Burroughs Wellcome Pharmaceutical and retired from DSM Pharmaceutical in 2000. He also retired from the Ayden Fire Department, where he served as the Assistant Chief for several years. Robert served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed woodworking and working in his garden.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Graham and Mary Bell Bass; brother, Graham B. Bass; and in-laws, Spurgeon and Gladys King.
He is survived by his wife, Mary King Bass; children, Robert W. Bass, Jr. and wife, Peggy, Shannon McLawhorn and husband, Richard, and Shawn Cannon and husband, Chris; grandchildren, Macy McLawhorn, Lindsay McLawhorn, Robbie Bass, and Dylan Bass; brother, Carroll Bass; sister-in-law, Frances Bass; very special friends, Yajaira Fernandez Ariza and Linda Harrelson; several nieces and nephews; and his loving pets, Sammie and Holly.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home. The family would like to give a special thanks to Kindred Health care and Community Hospice, and Kim, Natisha, Pam, Stephanie, Donyell, and Miss Louise for their special care.
