Mary Bass Crawford
Mrs. Mary ?Doll Raynor? Crawford, 98, of Newton Grove, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at Mary Gran Nursing Center in Clinton. She was born May 23, 1911 in Sampson County, the daughter of the late Amzie E. and Mattie Denning Bass.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Carlie Raynor, Milton Catlett and James Crawford, three children, Nancy Raynor Tuxford and her surviving husband Jimmy of Augusta, Ga., Herbert Raynor and his surviving wife Helen of Newton Grove, and Edith Raynor Parson and husband Carlton, a brother, Parlie ?Bill? Bass and two sisters, Hettie Maynard and Mamie Herring.
Mrs. Crawford was a lifetime and oldest member of Maple Grove Methodist Church.
A funeral will be held Saturday, Nov. 28, at 3 p.m., at Maple Grove Methodist Church, with the Rev. Walter Gaskins and the Rev. Charles Ray Jernigan officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Newton Grove.
She is survived by her children, Carlie C. Raynor and wife Ola of Erwin, Berline Raynor Jackson and husband Odell of White Marsh, Md., Mattie Bell Raynor Thornton and Dennis of Newton Grove and Wendell Raynor and wife Marie of Dunn; 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren and six step great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
