Jerry Lee Bass
(1936 - 2017)
Jerry Lee Bass was born May 25, 1936 In Dallas, Texas, and passed away March 1, 2017, at the age of 80. Jerry was a retired merchant seaman, having spent 40 years traveling around the world. He will always be remembered as a kind and compassionate man. He would take in and care for any stray cat or dog that needed a home, and he also cared for a family of raccoons that lived near him. Every year he would set out a 50 pound bag of pecans for the squirrels and blue jays. The blue jays even came to trust him so much that he had them literally eating out of his hand. Jerry enjoyed fishing, playing his ukulele or guitar while singing songs he collected on his travels, and sitting around with his friends, swapping stories while enjoying a cold beer or whiskey, or playing a game of washers. He was always the perfect host, cooking wonderful meals for family and friends, and who loved to laugh and make others laugh. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Bass; parents, Lee Carl and Rosie (Grimes) Bass; and brothers, Bobby Bass and Allen Baker. He is survived by his daughters, Gerri Baker and Mary Edwards; grandchildren, Stephanie Pray, Jennifer Storm, Brittany Jackson, Ryan Baker, Virginia Novak, Jonathan Novak, Jack Edwards, and Beth Edwards; 8 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Barbara Cano, Donald Baker, Betty West, Loyd Baker, and Earline Villanueva; as well as many extended family members. Funeral Services to celebrate Jerry's wonderful life will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service at Grove Hill Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Grove Hill Memorial Park.
