Verlyne Bassett Kirtley
Kirtley, Verlyne Bassett, 77, has gone to be with her Lord and reunite with her beloved parents, Walter and Emma Bassett and brother, Sartis Bassett of Oak Grove, Louisiana, who preceded her in death. She died in Mercy Hospital on August 2, 1998. Born in Kilbourne, Louisiana on February 6, 1921, Verlyne married Bayless E. Kirtley in 1947 and moved with him to Oklahoma City in 1948 where they made their home and raised three children. A long-time member of Nichols Hills Baptist Church, later renamed Quail Springs Baptist Church, she loved the Lord and studying His Word. Verlyne belonged to the Order of Eastern Star and was an active member of the Good Earth Garden Club and En Ami Book Club. She was a volunteer at Baptist Medical Center the last 25 years of her life. She....Little Rock, Eric Kirtly, Suzanne Wild, Jennifer Lee, Richard G. Fulton, Laura Sowle, all of OKC; and ten great grandchildren. Her family wished to express their deepest gratitude to her friends who prayed so fervently for her recovery, and especially to those who were so faithfully by her side during her long and courageous struggle in the hospital following surgery. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 1998, at the North Colonial Chapel of Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary.
