Mrs. Mamie Bass Piekaar
Funeral services for Mrs. Mamie Bass Piekaar, 45, wife of Charles H. Piekaar, off Leesville Road in Shady Grove Community, will be held today at 4 p.m. at the Grey Stone Baptist Church. Reverend B.E. Morris, pastor of the church, and Reverend Joe Haas of Shady Grove Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will be at 2135 Sunset Avenue until the hour of the funeral service.
Mrs. Piekaar died Wednesday in Wilmington following a heart attack. She and her family were on a fishing trip in the Wilmington area when she suffered the attack and was rushed to the hospital at Wilmington. She was dead on arrival at the hospital.
Mrs. Piekaar had lived most of her life in Durham and was a member of the Grey Stone Baptist Church. Her father was the late Reddin Bass who died in 1944.
Surviving are her husband, Charles H. Piekaar; one son, Bertis Piekaar and a daughter, Mrs. Marie Hoffman, all of the home; her mother, Mrs. Lillie Belle Averette Bass; seven sisters, Mrs. E.V. McFarland, Mrs. L.B. Smith, Mrs. C. T. Poe Jr., Mrs. L. E. Braswell Jr., Mrs. J. Faison Perry and Mrs. Ross A. Maynor, all of Durham; three brothers, Romark Bass, R. Asfurd Bass and Fred N. Bass, all of Durham. Pallbearers will be Dwight Ferrell, Ward Ferrell, Eldridge James, Robert Cooke, Jack McDowell and Lawrence Creech.
