Martin Elwood Bass
Martin Elwood Bass, 73, of 2512 Ross Road died Wednesday in Durham County General hospital after a lengthy illness.
Bass was a native of Sampson County but lived in Durham most of his life. He was retired from Duke Power Company.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hudson Funeral Home chapel by the Reverend Ran Whitley and the Reverend Julian Motley. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
Bass is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sarah Bridwell Bass; four sons, James Linwood Bass, John Burney Bass, Donnie Wayne Bass and Charles Martin Bass, all of Durham; three sisters, Mrs. Vila Chappell, Mrs. Malvene Nash and Ms. Pearl Bass, all of Durham; a brother, Floyd Bass of Durham; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Calvin Bass, Mike Chappell, Winston Chappell, Dwight Nash, Lynn Harms and Carl Bass.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hudson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

M.E. Bass
Martin Elwood Bass, 73, of 2521 Ross Road, died yesterday at Durham County General Hospital after a long illness.
He was a native of Dunn and was a retired bus driver for Duke Power Company.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sarah Bridwell Bass; four sons, James Linwood Bass, John Burney Bass, Donnie Wayne Bass and Charles Martin Bass, all of Durham; three sisters, Mrs. Vila Chappel, Mrs. Malvene Nash and Ms. Pearl Bass, all of Durham; a brother, Floyd Bass of Durham, 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will be at Hudson Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and at other times at the home, 2521 Ross Road.
