      Redden B. Bass, 61, Dies Of Heart Attack
      Redden B. Bass, 61, retired employee of the weave room at the Erwin Cotton Mills, died last night at 11:15 o'clock following a heart attack suffered shortly after a group had held prayer meeting in his home. He had been confined to this home for some time and his death was not unexpected.
      Mr. Bass came to Durham from Cumberland County 17 years ago. During his early life he had engaged in farming in Sampson and Cumberland County. He had not worked any for the past four years.
      His parents were the late Melvin and Amey Honeycutt Bass of Sampson County. He was married in 1906 to Lillie Bell Averitt. He was a member of the West Durham Baptist Church.
      Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Romark M. Bass and Fred Nelson Bass of Durham, and Redden Asfurd Bass, now overseas; eight daughters, Mrs. Mamie Piekaar, Mrs. Claudia McFarland, Mrs. Louvina Smith, Mrs. Lena Parrish, Mrs. Mavis Keaton, and Miss Ora Faye Bass, all of Durham; Mrs. Margie Poe and Mrs. Iona Perry of Florida; three sisters, Mrs. J.D. Scoggins, Mrs. J.M. Wallace of Fayetteville and Mrs. W.R. House of Richmond, Virginia; and one brother, Nick Bass of Durham.
      Funeral services probably will be held Friday at the home with the Reverend B.E. Morris officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
