Mr. Irving E. King, 80
WATERTOWN - Irving E. King, 80, formerly of Bassett Road, Watertown, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at Abbott Terrace Health Center in Waterbury. He was the widower of Marie S. (Fama) King.
Mr. King was born in Waterbury on Aug. 21, 1928, son of the late Albert and Hattie (Bassett) King. He lived in Watertown for most of his life. Bassett Road was named for his great-grandparents, the first people to settle on that road. He was a dairy farmer and owned a riding stable, and his legacy continues to live on at Bassett Road. He worked for Martin J. Kelly Tree Experts for 20 years. He loved animals and enjoyed landscaping.
Mr. King leaves his son, Irving E. King Jr., and his wife, Betty, of Bantam; and three nieces, Harriet Clark of Plymouth, Joan Vendetti of Terryville and Robert Biondi of Waterbury.
A memorial service for Mr. King will be held Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 11 a.m. at Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, CT Chapter, 279 New Britain Road, Suite 5, Kensington 06037; or to Animal Rescue Foundation, P.O. Box 538, Thomaston 06787.
