Jean C. Bassett
Jean C. Bassett, 77, of Baton Rouge, passed away from complications of an aortic aneurysm rupture Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at St. Luke?s Episcopal Hospital, Houston, with her husband and daughters by her side. She was born Feb. 19, 1933, in Baton Rouge. She grew up in Galvez, graduated from Gonzales High School and resided in Baton Rouge for her adult life. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, William ?Bill? Bassett; and two daughters, Pamela Jean Bassett, of Baton Rouge, and Kimberly Ann Bassett, of Charlotte, N.C. Also survived by a brother, Maj. Gen. Herman ?Jerry? Carpenter, of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. Preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Dena Carpenter; and sister, Jewell Beaty. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Monday, April 5, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Reception immediately following at Greenoaks Reception Center. Jean was a member of the Cat Fanciers Association and Greater Baton Rouge Cat Club and registered Pajean Cattery in 1986 with her daughter, Pamela. She was well known worldwide for her success in breeding and showing Persian cats, including Cat of the Year in 1994, 1999 and 2000. Jean was very active. She had a great skill for decorating and was owner/operator of a small gift shop for many years. Her other passions were shopping, cooking, traveling to cat show competitions and visiting her daughter, Kimberly. Many heartfelt thanks goes to the Critical Care team at St. Luke?s Episcopal Hospital.
