Darrel Hoyt
Hoyt, Darrell Wayne 73, of Crown Point, IN, died peacefully at home on August 27, 2014. Memorial services will be announced later. Darrell was born in McLean County, KY and later grew up in Crown Point, IN, where he lettered in baseball, basketball and football all four years. He later attended Washington State University on a football scholarship before transferring to Indiana State University. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He worked at U.S. Steel for 32 years in the Quality Control Chemistry Lab. Darrell was active in youth sports, coaching basketball and baseball for many years, including five Babe Ruth State Championship teams. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Robert "Ted" and Opal Bassett Hoyt. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 50 years, Mary Lou; his son, Daniel Hoyt, Crown Point, IN; daughter, Larissa Hoyt, Crown Point, IN; granddaughter, Taran Delaney, Crown Point, IN; grandson, Bryan Hoyt, Schererville, IN; one sister, Vicky Schuett (Kenneth), Crown Point, IN; two nieces and one nephew. Darrell and Mary Lou had retired to the Savannah Lakes Village in McCormick, SC, where they enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing and boating since 1996. Memorials may be made in memory of Darrell to the McCormick County Humane Society, or the Humane Society of the donor's choice. Strom Funeral Home is assisting the family.
