  Notes	3B3232. David Bassett, son of Samuel and Susannah (Morris) Bassett, was born in 1754 in Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut. David died or was lost at sea in 1803. He married Sarah Oviatt, daughter of Isaac and Mehitable (Tibbals) Oviatt, in Milford, Connecticut. Sarah was born in 1768. Sarah died 27 Dec 1842 in Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut (Milford Vital Records). Co., Inc., 1979 (FHL US/CAN 974.67/M2 D2a), p.65: "David Bassett s of Samuel and Susannah (Morris) was b ca 1754 and died at sea in Capt. Peck's vessel (BP). He married Sarah Oviatt." MARR.: Rev. War. Pension File of David Bassett (W17241) (FHL film #970170): "David Bassett & Sarah Oviatt were married 16 July 1785 by Stephen Gunn, Justice of Peace in the home of Ebenezer Oviatt [of Milford]." [Note: The birth dates of the first three children are 1782, 1784, & 1786. This pension file marriage date was given much later.] DEATH: Rev. War. Pension File of David Bassett (W17241) (FHL film #970170): "David Bassett died 16 Jan 1803 at the Island of Guadolopue in the West Indies." CENSUS: David was found in the 1790 and 1800 censuses. In the 1790 census of Milford, New Haven, CT, p.101 the David Bassett household included: 1 male over 16 [likely David], 3 males under 16 [likely sons David, Nehemiah, & Jonah], and 1 female [likely wife Sarah]. In the 1800 census of Milford, New Haven, CT, p.209 (BYU film #2) the David Bassett household included: 1 male between 26 & 45 [likely David], 3 males between 10 & 26 [likely sons David, Nehemiah, & Jonah], 2 males under 10 [likely sons Marcus & Daniel], 1 female between 26-45 [likely wife Sarah, 3 females under 10 [likely Elizabeth, Lois, & Susannah]. MILITARY: Served in the Rev. War. See pension file W17241 (FHL film #970170). Private 1 year under Capt. Curtis of Waterbury & were stationed on Long Island in 1779. Served 1 year under Capt. Peter Hepburn at the fort at Milford in 1780. Enlisted as a private in a company commanded by Jehial Bryson of Milford and marched to New London and served several months. Affadavit signed 25 Apr 1839 by David's brother Isaac Bassett. Affadavit signed 30 Sep 1839 by David's son Jonah Bassett.
