    • Edward Bass died in 1802 intestate leaving heirs at law: wife Sarah who has died during probate years; son John Bass who died leaving issue Uriah, Mary, Betsy, Sally, Ann, Keziah, and Richard all living in Alabama early during probate; son Andrew Bass living in Johnston and Wayne North Carolina; son William Bass of Wayne North Carolina; son Uriah Bass who died as minor during probate without issue; son Richard Bass of Tennessee who died during probate leaving issue Elizabeth Bass Boyte (Thomas), Sally Bass Jacobs (William), and Edward Bass all of Tennessee; daughter Mary Bass a minor in 1802 who has married Britton Hood; and, daughter Keziah Bass a minor in 1802 who has married John Cox. The latter two girls are petitioning against the estate as they were young and not aware of their rights in 1802 so the property is being re-evaluated and divided in 1826.

      It appearing to the satisfaction of the Court, that Uriah Bass, Mary Bass, Elizabeth Bass, Sarah Bass, Ann Bass, Hezekiah Bass, and Richard Bass, Elizabeth, the wife of Thomas Boyte, Sarah, the wife of William Jacobs, and Edward Bass, the defendants, in this case, are not inhabitants of this State; it is therefore ordered, that publication be made six weeks in the Carolina Sentinel, that unless they appear at the next Court of Pleas and Quarter-Sessions, to be held for the County of Wayne, at the Court House in Wayne, on the 3d Monday of August next, judgment will take against them, pro confesso.

      Pearce Bogdon, Administrator of John Bass, deceased
      In this case, it having been made to appear to the Court that Uriah, Mary, Elizabeth, Sarah, Anne, Keziah, and Richard Bass, Heirs at Law of Jno. Bass, dec. defendants, in this cause, live beyond the limits of the State, so that the ordinary process of law cannot be served on them, it is therefore ordered by the Court, that advertisement be made in the Raleigh Register for six weeks, for the defendants to appear at the Courthouse in Waynesboro, on the 3d Monday of August next, then and there to show cause why the lands descending to said heirs aforesaid, shall not be liable to the plaintiff’s recovery.
