      BAPTISM, MARRIAGE, RESIDENCE, WILL & DEATH: vi. Jeremiah, bapt. 28 Sept. 1662 at Milford; d. 18 Mar. 1739/40, at New Milford; married 1n 1687, Alice Hine, born at Milford, 16 Dec. 1667, died at New Milford, 4 Jan. 1739/40, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (------) Hine.
      He resided in Milford until 11 Mar. 1726/7, when he bought from Samuel Clark, Jr., land on Second Hill and also in what is now Bridgewater, in the town of New Milford. He soon settled there, and joined the First Church in New Milford in 1736. [Ref.: Samuel Orcutt, History of New Milford (1882), 130-1.]
      His will, dated 11 Mar. 1739/40, with a codicil the next day, was proved 31 Mar. 1740, and contains many interesting provisions. He gave to his eldest son, Jeremiah, one acre in Milford; five shillings to his son Azariah, who had received his full portion; to son Samuel, land in New Milford; to son Thomas, one acre in Milford; to daughter Zeruiah wife of Daniel Terril, £20; to daughter "Els" [Alice]wife of Josiah Basset, £20 and a quarter of his undivided rights in Milford; to son Zerubbabel, land in New Milford; to son Joseph, a cow; to daughter Jemima wife of John Bostwick, the brass kettle which was her mother's; the three daughters to have the residue of the personal estate; sons Samuel and Zerubbabel to be executors. He also gave legacies to Mary wife of his son Zerubbabel, to Mercy wife of his son Azariah, and to Phebe daughter of his son Jeremiah.       LAND: Milford Land Records Vol. 7 p. 547-8, 30 June 1712 (FHL Film #4919): The land in Milford originally granted to Thomas Canfield (1623) is divided according to his will between his two sons Thomas Canfield (1654) and Jeremiah Canfield (1662) The eldest son, Thomas Canfield was also deceased by the time this transaction was concluded, so the transaction is between Jeremiah Canfield (1662) and his nephew, Thomas Canfield son of Thomas Canfield (1654).       LAND: Milford, New Haven, CT Land Records, Vol. 12, p.14 (FHL film #4922): Edward Bassett of Milford, New Haven, CT sold land to Samuel Gunn on 22 March 1748/9. This land was part of the original land granted to Edward's "Grandfather Canfield." In this document the land had been annexed to Sgt. Thomas Canfield in 1686. Witnessed by Josiah Bassett. Recorded 22 March 1749.

      LAND: Milford, NH, CT Land Records Vol. 7 p. 249,( FHL Film #4919): Jeremiah Canfield of New Milford, New Haven, in the Colony of Connecticut, husbandman, gave seven acres of land in Milford to his daughters Jeruiah [Zerviah] Terrill, wife of Daniel Terrill, and Alice Bassett, wife of Josiah Bassett on 29 Oct 1728.
