- According to the marriage register for Ontario, Canada, John Bassett was 22 years of age and Jane Craig was 23 years of age at the time of their marriage. Also "bridegroom was adopted at infancy by one Besett but his father's name was Stewart."

Mrs. Jean Craig Bassett
Widow of the late John Bassett, Harrisville
Died Monday of Heart Disease, Aged 73
Mrs. Jean Craig Bassett, 73, widow of the late John Bassett, Harrisvlle, died suddenly of heart disease Monday. She was married to Mr. Bassett on September 6, 1876 and they located in Harrisville in 1898. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bassett. One daughter, Blanche, died in 1918. Mrs. Bassett was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, the Ladies' Aid society and Women's Home Missionary society of that church.
Surviving are five sons, John, Jr., George C., A. Lloyd, Ross and William C. Bassett, all of Harrisville; three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Deachman, North Woodstock, New Hampshire; Mrs. Mary Mannigan, Harrisville; and Mrs. Christina Sanford, Potsdam; one brother, Charles Craig, Caldwell's Mills, Ontario; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Harrisville Woman DIes Suddenly
Mrs. Jean Craig Bassette, 73, died suddenly at her home in Harrisville, Monday morning. She had been in failing health for eight years. Death was due to heart disease. She was the widow of John Bassette, who died in 1922.
A native of Darling, Ontario, she was born August 3, 1856, a daughter of George and Elizabeth Stewart Craig, natives of Yorkshire, England. Her girlhood was spent in Darling where she married Mr. Bassette, September 6, 1876. For a time they resided in Lanark, Ontario, and later moved to Caldwell's Mills, Ontario. In 1885 they came to Harrisville, where they had since resided. Nine children were born to them, eight of whom survive, also 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
