    Notes
    • Louisa Bassett, daughter of Richard and Telitha Bassett, was born 19 Jun 1845 in Georgia. She died 9 Sep 1918 in Jackson County, Florida. She married (1) Robert Gregg, son of Robert Charles Gregg. She later moved to Marianna, Florida to join other family members and married (2) Chesterfield Basford, son of James G. and Lydia (Sellers) Basford on 21 May 1879 in Jackson County, Florida. Chesterfield was born 30 Oct 1846 in Brunswick, North Carolina. he died 25 May 1933 in Jackson County, Florida. He married (1) Saphronia Heath on 12 Feb 1868 in Jackson County, Florida. She was born 1843, died 3 Aug 1877 in Jackson County, Florida. They had Katherine Jane Basford, Lorinza Rite Basford, and James Gorgon Basford.
Louisa went from the Macon, Georgia area to Alabama. When she came back she had a new baby (Robert Charles Gregg) and a story about a new husband, Robert Gregg (who was an orphan), who stayed behing in Montogmery to continue being its telegraph operator during a Yellow Fever outbreak in Montgomery. She later received word that Robert Gregg had contracted Yellow Fever, died and was buried. She lived with the Evans family until moving out and marrying Mr. Basford from northern Florida. Several researchers have looked, but nothing has been found regarding this mysterious Rogert Gregg.
However, Y-DNA results for two different sons of Robert Charles Gregg show that they carried the Bassett DNA found in all other male Bassetts from the #48B Francis Bassett line. There are two possibilities. Either she took in an illegitimate child fathered by a male Bssett brother, uncle or cousin, or was actually the mother of the children, the father being a close male Bassett family member.
