A new weekly newspaper, the Newcomerstown Herald, was to make its appearance the coming Friday. Robert Bassett, Dover, formerly of Newcomerstown, was editor and publisher and the business was to be housed in the McConnell building, Main.

Newcomerstown Herald, Weekly, Is Discontinued
The Newcomerstown Herald, a weekly publication, will perhaps be discontinued due to the fact that Robert Basseett, editor, has accepted a position with the Basil L. Smith classified advertising system of Philadelphia, Pa.
The publication has been operated since January 4, this year. The plant was located in the McConnell building,, Bridge st., Newcomerstown.
Mr. and Mrs. Bassett left this morning for Meadville, Pa, where the former will be employed two weeks before going to Philadelphiz. Mrs. Bassett was formerly Miss Mattie Cooper of this city.
Smith, whose classified system is used by many large papers, is a former Newcomerstown resident.

Robert W. Bassett
Bassett, Robert W., 92, of Dunedin, died Saturday (Aug. 31, 1996) at Harborside Healthcare, Clearwater. He was born in Newcomerstown, Ohio, and came here in 1981 from Los Angeles. He worked in display advertising for the Signal newspaper, Huntington Park, Calif. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was Protestant. Survivors include his wife, E. Lucille Burton; a son, Julian, Knoxville, Tenn.; and two cousins, William O'Malley, Dunedin, and Robert O'Malley, Marietta, Ohio. Curlew Hills Funeral Home, Palm Harbor.
