- Willis Bass Family
Willis Bass (b. April 20, 1812, Tenn., d. July 11, 1884) was the son of Jordan and Bathenia Gay Bass.
The family moved to Alabama where Willis M. and had two sons: (1) Elijah m. N.J. Brown; (2) Tilman m. Nancy A. Pickins.
The story is that Willis accidentally shot and killed his first wife and grieved about it the rest of his life.
Willis Bass married Elizabeth Harden Aug. 21, 1832, in St. Clair Co., Ala., and they had 11 children: (1) Mary Ann m. Benjamin P. Riddle; (2) Sarah F. m. David Haden Myers; (3) John, who was blind, m. Mrs. S. P. Martin; (4) Martha J. m. Cyth Robinson; (5) Jordan; (6) Elizabeht W. m. William YH. Yoakum. These were all born in Alabama. Children born in Texas: (7 Dicia B. ?Dicy? m. William H. Wilson; (8) George W.; (9) Parmecy; (10) Calvin Calaway; (11) Nicholas.
The family moved to Texas about 1849 with the Henry T. Click family and Willis? brother, John Bass.
Willis Bass m. Marhta Louisa Click Roberson, a daughter of his good friend, Henry T. Click, Jan. 22 1865. She had been married previously to Nicholas D. Robertson, Chlidren of that marriage: (1) Dora M. m. James L. Tarrant; (2) Ida d. in infancy; (3) Johnnie m. William Aaron Dean; (4) Ella D. m. James L. Tarrant after the death of her sister, his first wife, in 1889.
Willis Bass was very active in the Salem Baptist Church of Christ at Larissa, Tex., according to the church minutes dated May, 1849. His wife, Elizabeth, d. Oct. 13, 1865, in Cherokee County and is buried in the Old Baptist Cemetery at Larissa. Willis Bass is buried in Old Baptist Cemetery with his second wife, Elizabeth, and his brother, John.
At the time of his death, Willis Bass was a wealthy man, and had a large plantation. His third wife, Martha Louisa, d. Sept. 12, 900, and is buried in the Myrtle Springs Cemetery at Larue, Tex. ? Candy Walling Post, a great-granddaughter of johnnie Bass Dean and William Aaron Dean.
