Betty Bassitt (Picture included)
SEBRING, Fla. ? Betty Louise Bassitt (93) passed away, June 19, 2018 at Heartland Medical Center in Sebring, Florida, after a short illness. She was born September 8, 1924 in Lima, Ohio to Clarence, Sr. and Catherine (Johnson) Kersker both deceased. She married James Bassitt and he is deceased.
She is survived by her children, Leslie (Stephen) Becker, Avon Park, FL, Randi (Edward ? deceased) Davidson, Titusville, FL, Jamie (James) Brewer, Sebring, FL, James (Valerie) Bassitt, San Antonio, TX, and Jay (Jessica) Bassitt, Lebanon, ME; 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren; a two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kersker and Rita Kersker; and one brother-in-law, Harold Carmen.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Kersker, Jr. and Richard Kersker; and a sister, Barbara Carmen.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Union Congregational Church.
Betty spent her life teaching children in Bath Township, Ohio and Brevard County, Florida. She retired after from the school system of Highlands County, Florida in 1985. She taught for over 42 years. Over the years she graduated and was an alumnus of Ohio Northern University. She volunteered at the Elks in Sebring, Florida and sang with the Sweet Adelines in Ohio. She attended Union Congregation Church in Avon Park, Florida. Betty was known for her smile.
A memorial service was held in Sebring, Florida on July 1, 2018. Services will also be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lima, Ohio on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 10:00am with Pastor Dave Stanford officiating.
