Elijah Bass
Elijah Bass, son of Guilford, Sr., and Mary (Proctor) Bass, was born near Ramsey, Ills., June 18, 1840, and died at his home near Oconee, Ills., February 21, 1910, aged 69 years, 6 months, and 3 days.
He ws united in marriage with Sarah Chase about 1863, and to them was born one son, John William. They wife died in 1865. In 1866 he was married to Mahala Rogers and to this union were born nine children, five of whom preceded him indeath. His second wife died October 26, 1909, preceding him only a few months. Those surviving him are Altona M. of Ramsey; Frederick of Oconee; Charles on the home place; and Mrs. Sadie Fleming of Nokomis.
In connection with his farm life he delt largely in stock as a trader and feeder, and for many years his dealing furnished a source for stock raising which has been of great value to his community. He professed faith in Christ, and was baptized Oct. 10, 1909. He was a faithful, affectionate husband, a kind indulgent father, a good neighbor, and an honest citizen.
Besides his five children and eighteen grand children there are left to mourn their loss a host of relatives and friends. He will be missed in the home and in the community. Funeral services were conducted from First Baptist church of Oconee, Tuesday
