      In the name of God amen. I William Bass of the county of Chesterfield and parish of Dale being weak and low but thanks be to God in perfect mind and memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following.

      Imprimus, first I give to my loving wife Mary Bass the use of the plantation whereon I now live and all the lands adjoining of the old tract also two hundred acres of land lying in the county of Amelia it being part of a tract whereon my son William Bass now lives on and joining the lands of Christopher Bass divided by nods branch also the following negros are York, Anake, Doll, Beck, Dick, Old Dawson, Civil, Frank, Spark and Hanner, during her widowhood and after her death or marriage to return as hereafter devised.

      Item. I give and devise to my daughter Mary Clay a negro wench Phillis and her increase that my daughter have now in her possession to her, her heirs and assigns forever.

      Item I give devise and bequeath to my son William Bass my plantation in the county of Amelia whereon he now lives and all my lands adjoining but that he shall not have the use and possession of the two hundred acres above lent my wife until her death or marriage also the following negros, Jack, Museer and all the increase of the said Museer and I do not remember the names of the children, Epap, Sam,Doll and York also one third of my plantation, horses, cattle, hogs, and sheep and all the household and kitchen furniture that he has now in his possession to him his heirs and assigns forever.

      Item I give devise and bequeath to my son John Bass the following negros Brandon and Nuth also all the stock of horses, cattle and hogs and household and kitchen furniture that he has now in his possession to him his heirs and assigns forever.

      Item I give devise Aand bequeath to my daughter Frances Walthall the following negros Jack and Judy and the increase of the said wench Judy which she has now in possession to herher heirs and assigns forever.

      Item I give devise and bequeath to my son Henry Bass the plantation whereon he now lives and lands adjoining up to the line of the old tract whereon I now live including the lands I bought of Henry Womack also two negros Sharpe and Doll, also all the stock furniture and utensils on the said plantation to him his heirs and assigns forever.

      Item I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Bass two negros Combo and Little Beck. Feather bed and furniture of the value of eight pounds current money and horse and saddle of the value of ten pounds half a dozen pewter dishes and a _____plates and half dozen Rush bottom chairs to her her heirs and assigns forever.

      Item I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Lucy Bass two negros Young Rosser and Alice one feather bed and furniture of the value of eight pounds current money one horse and saddle of the value of ten pounds half a dozen pewter dishes and a dozen plates andhalf dozen Rush bottom chairs to her her heirrs and assigns forever.

      Item I dive devise and bequeath to my son Archard Bass the plantation and tract of land I bought of William Robertson also two negros Daniel and Diner and one featherbed and furniture of the value of eight pounds current money four cows and calves and two sows and pigs also fifty five pounds current money in lieu of twenty pounds and the use of it that he might claim under a gift by the will of Jeremiah Walthall to him his heirs and assigns forever.

      ItemI give devise and bequeath to my son Edward Bass my plantation of Skin Quarter and all my lands adjoining also two negros Sand and Agge four cows and calves two sows and pigs and one feather bed and furniture of the vslue of eight pounds current money to him his heirs and assigns forever.

      Item I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Martha Bass two negros Jenny and Cully also one feather bed and furniture of the value of eight pounds current money one horse and saddle of the value of ten pounds half dozen pewter dishes a dozen plates and half dozen rush bottom chairs to her her heirs and assigns forever.

      Item I give devise and bequeath to son Thomas Bass the plantation and tract of land I bought of James Robertson also two negros Joe and Lottice one feather bed and furniture of the value of eight pounds current money four cows and calves and two sows and pigs to him his heirs and assigns forever.

      Item I give devise and bequeath to my son Joseph Bass the plantation whereon I now live on and lands adjoining to include the old tract also two negros Young Jack and Phillis one feather bed and furniture of the value of eight pounds current money four cows and calves two sows and pigs to him his heirs and assigns forever.

      Item All mynegroes and personal estate not already by this will given away I give the use of to my loving wife Mary Bass during the time she continues my widow and at her death or marriage I give all the negroes and personal estate lent my wife to be equally divided between all my childrenthat shall be then alive and if any of my children that is or then have been married and dead before this division shall happen and leaving issue the said issue shall have the same part or portion that the father or mother would have had in case they had lived until such division had been made. Mywill and desire is that if either my sons Archard or Thomas shall die before they arrive to the age of twenty one years that the survivor shall have the land given them by this will and the other part of the estate to be equally divided between all the brothers. My further will and desire is that if either of my daughters should die unmarried and under the age of twenty one years that the survivors of them being unmarried or under the age of twenty one years shall equally divide its part or portion alloted them by this will and I do hereby appoint my loving wife Mary Bass and my sons William Bass, Henry Bass and Archard Bass joint executors of this my last will and testament revoking and making null and void all and every other will or wills formerly made by me. In testimony whereof I have here unto set my hand and affixed my seal this seventeenth day of August 1769.
