      Description: In the name of God amen, I Jesse Bass of Nash County and state of North Carolina, being sick and weak of boddie but of perfect mind and memory blessed be God knowing that is is once appointed for all men to dis do make and establish this to be my last will and testament.
      First. I give my soul to God the author of the same and my body to be laid in the dust at the discretion of my friends as touching my worldly affairs as followeth that is to say:
      Item. I lend to my beloved wife Frances during her natural life all the lands within the following bounds beginning at the mouth of the Little Swamp thence up the same to the south of a branch that runs between the potato patch field and the Woodruff field thence up to the said branch to the fork thence a south course to a branch near the Manning old field thence and just above the Manning path to a new marked corner pine thence down the branch to the creek near the Manning ford, thence downthe creek to a branch that heads near the prim old field thence up said branch to the head of a poplar thence a straight course to the prim spring thence to a corner pine where George Boddie Bunting and myself corners thence my own line and others a north course to the first station containing 700 acres more or less.
      Item. I also give to my beloved wife two Negroes namely Ned and Ann and two featherbeds and furniture one that came by her one bureau that came by her, two head of horses the Michael horse and ? head, 800 pounds of pork, 20 barrels of corn, 2 blade stacks and one top stack 3 bushels of salt 3 cows and calves five bushels of wheat and 15 gallons of brandy.
      Item. I give to my beloved daughter Frances Bass two Negroes John and Bob.
      Item. I give to my beloved son Coffield, two negros namely Gustus and Esther.
      Item. I give to my beloved son Council Bass 1/2 of my mill and 1/2 of two small strips of land that lies on the each side of the mill and also the tract of land that I bought of the heirs of Augustine Bass deceased only excepting 100 acres which is to be taken after the upper part joining the tract of land also one mare by the name of Tups my bridle and saddle and 2 negros named Tom and Amy.
      Item. I give to my son Goodman Bass the other half of the 2 strips of land lying east side of the creek as aforesaid for the use of the mill also the other 100 acres of land that I bought from the heirs of Augustine Bass deceased together with the hole of the peas tract of land and also 2 negros namely Vol and Little Silva.
      Item. I give it to my beloved son Sion Bass all of my tract of land known by the name of the Cherry land and the remainder part of the Manning land and 2 negros named Charles and Lizen.
      Item. I give to my beloved son Jordan Bass the following tracts of land. One track by the name of Cooper land and one small tract of land called the Joiner lands also the balance of the prim land that has not been devised away and 2 negros named Hary and Prudence.
      Item. I give to my beloved son Gideon bass 2 negros one called Big Mall and Tanner
      Item. I give to my beloved daughter Penelope Wilhight 2 negros which she has already Juner and Beck.
      Item. I give to my beloved son Edwin the upper part of the Britain track of land together with 72 acres of land that I have taken up to a dividing line between said Edwin and his brother Isaac Bass beginning in Gideon Bases line in the branch at a poplar then on South through the field by a persimmon tree to said Gideon Basses line also 2 negros Dread and Vilet.
      Item. I give to my beloved son Isaac Bass the balance of the Britain track of land from the dividing line down also 2 negros called Fill and Will.
      Item. I give my beloved son Edmon Bass 2 negros York and Peggy.
      Item. I give to my beloved son Jesse Bass 2 negros Jak and Phoebe one horse named Talton, bridal and saddle and 15 barrels of corn and $50 in cash.
      Item. I give to my beloved daughter Elizabeth Bass 3 negros namely Jude, Little Jill and Peter.
      Item. I give to my beloved daughter Louzaney Bass 2 negros named Jenny and Allen.
      Item. I give to my worthy friend Morning Sykes 1 negro girl named Tiller.
      tem. My will and desire is it all the remainder of my estate that I have not already given away be sold by my executors and after the payment of my just debt to be equally divided among all of my children namely Gideon, Penelope, Edwin, Isaac, Edmon, Jesse, Elizabeth, Council, Louzany, Jordan, Sion, Goodman, Frances, and Coffield, and I do here by appoint my worthy friend Richard Holland my executor to this my last will and testament. SignEd and acknowledged in the presence of us revoking all other wills by me made hereto fore as witness my hand and seal the sixth day of May 1822. Jesse Bass (seal)
      Witness. Little B White, J.J. Bowden, Elizabeth White her mark. State of North Carolina, Nash County Court, May Term 1822. Jesse Bass deceased was exhibited in open court the foregoing last will and testament was duly proven in Apr Court by the oaths of Little B White and J.J. Bowden subscribing witnesses thereto and on motion ordered to be recorded as appears of record recorded in obedience thereto. Attest. H. Blount CCC
