Los Gatos: Bassett Earns Rank of Eagle Scout
Astronaut Neil Armstrong earned the distinction. So did President Gerald Ford and move director Steven Spielberg.
In fact, the long list of those Boy Scouts who reached the coveted Eagle rank includes those who went on to succeed as astronauts and politicians, athletes and military officers, scientists and clergyman.
It was that list that Jason Bassett of Los Gatos joined recently after earning 21 merit badges and completing a community service project, placing him in the prestigious company of Eagle recipients.
Jason is a member of Troop 2 (formerly Troop 501), sponsored by the Los Gatos Rotary Club, and was presented with his Eagle award at a court of honor on Sept. 26.
For his Eagle project, Jason directed the renovation of the fire pit area at the Los Gatos Youth Park, located behind the high school.
Jason, a member of Calvary Church, served Troop 2 as a senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, ho9nor guard chairman, webmaster, patrol leader and assistant patrol leader.
He is a 2012 graduate of Leigh High School, where he was active in the marching band and the drama program, and is now a freshman at Santa Clara University.
Jason is the son of Scott Bassett of Los Gatos and Kathy Tregembo of San Jose.
