Anne Blair Bassett of Gilbert Street, a retired bookkeeper who had lived in Ridgefield for 52 years, died Monday, October 12, at Laurelwood Rehabilitation Center on Route 7. She was 83 years old and the widow of Howard L. Bassett.
Mrs. Bassett was born in Canada, February 17, 1910, a daughter of the late Duncan and Agnes Blair, and she attended schools in Canada.
Mrs. Bassett had lived in Ridgefield since 1936 and was a retired bookkeeper for the former Cleveland Bassett and son Contractors here.
She was a member of the C.C.C. and W.W.W., a group of women who met regularly for years ? to play cards and talk, it was widely believed ? while maintaining secrecy as to exactly what they did and what C.C.C. and W.W.W. stood for.
Mrs. Bassett was a member of the First Congregational church. She had been a troop leader with the Girl Scouts, and was an avid reader who enjoyed literature.
Survivors include nephews Donald and Erwin Allen of Ridgefield, and several nieces.
Funeral services took place this morning, Thursday, in the Kane Funeral Home on Catoonah Street, and burial was in Mapleshade cemetery here.
Contributions in Mrs. Bassett?s memory may be made to the Ridgefield Visiting Nurses Association at 90 East Ridge.
