LIMA ? Ruth A. Bassett, 80, passed away on May 24, 2017, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
Ruth was born March 2, 1937 in Allen, OH, to Felix and Bessie (Hunter) Thomas who preceded her in death. On October 29, 1955 she married Robert Bassett who preceded her in death on January 2, 1992.
She was a member of the Lima Missionary Baptist Church and worked in packaging at International Brake parts for 25 years. Ruth was a homemaker for many years of her life and she was considered a neighborhood mom; she was a really good person to everyone she encountered.
She is survived by her sons, Michael (Martha) Bassett, Keith (Darlene) Bassett, Jerry Bassett, Bobby (Becky) Bassett and Charles (Deb) Seimet; grandchildren, Melissa (Jeremy) Foster, Michelle (Brant) Martin, Joshua (Alicia) Bassett, Scott (Mandi) Bassett, Curt (Rachel) Bassett, Cory (Lacey) Bassett, Mindy (Kyle) Geesaman and Chelsey Bassett, 15 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Robert (Bonnie) Thomas, Bill (Jane) Thomas, and sisters, Evelyn Kohli and Margaret Murphy.
Ruth was preceded in death by her sisters, Tootie Siemet, Mary Casey and Elsie Casey as well as her brother, Evan Thomas.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 10:00 AM at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL with Pastor Terry Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Cairo East Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, May 26, 2017 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Putnam County Hospice.
