Mrs. Bassett Is Laid To Rest
Buried Today, At Sleepy Hollow Cemetery
The Vanderbilt Funeral Home was thronged with local residents, and many from adjoining communities at 3:30 o’clock this afternoon when funeral services were held for Mrs. May E. Bassett, wife of Matthew Bassett, who once ran Bassett’s restaurant on Orchard Street, which in the days before the automobile was a rendezvous for bicycling parties.
In the throng this afternoon were many who years ago were patrons of the Bassett restaurant and who throughout the years held the decedent in the highest esteem.
The services this afternoon at the Sower-banked bier were conducted by the Reverend Arthur G. Carroll, pastor of the Asbury M.E. Church of which Mrs. Bassett was a faithful member. Interment was in the family plot in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
Members of the Women’s Relief Corps of Ward B. Burnett Post, G.A.R., held their services at the Vanderbilt Funeral Home at 3 o’clock last night.
