Richard Bassett Dyson
Richard Bassett Dyson, 75, of Otter Cove, Old Saybrook, passed away Sunday, (October 23, 2005) at Old Saybrook Convalescent Home. Beloved husband of Norman (Hess) Dyson, he was born in Hartford on July 3, 1930, son of the late Harold R. and Eleanor (Bassett) Dyson. Mr. Dyson was an Army veteran serving in the Korean conflict and attended Johns Hopkins University and the University of PA. Graduating with a masters in Engineering. He retired as chief of Engineer Evaluation at United Technologies in East Hartford. Mr. Dyson was a selectman in Old Saybrook and on the board of Finance. He was chairman of the Acton Library in Old Saybrook for 15 years, and a charter member of St. Paul Lutheran Church council, and past president. Mr. Dyson was an avid boater and racer; he belonged to the Duck Island Yacht Club as the past commodore and the North Cove Yacht Club. Mr. Dyson lived in Old Saybrook for 442 years; he cherished his family and will be sadly missed. Besides his wife he is survived by his son, David Dyson and his wife, Linda and their children, Krispen and Lacy Dennison of Westbrook; two daughters; Pamela Dyson and her husband, Mark Lyons and their children, Trevor, Cameron and Chloe of Deep River, and Carol Dyson of Avon; a sister, Barbara Papritz of Greenwich; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother, Donald Dyson. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 26 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Old Saybrook. Family and friends may call at the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook, Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery..
