Died at 2:50 A.M. Oct. 23, 2003, At Shawnee
BEVERLY "JOANN" BASSITT, 76, Lima, died at 2:50 a.m. Oct. 23, 2003, at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 13, 1927, in Toledo to Charles Herbert and Hilda Mae Holland Sortman, who preceded her in death. On Dec. 21, 1946, she married Ronald E. Bassitt, who died May 6, 1994.
Mrs. Bassitt was a homemaker. She was a member of Family of Faith United Methodist Church (First United Methodist Church), where she had been a Sunday school teacher and a member of Yazels Bible study. She was a member of the Shawnee Lions and a volunteer at Lima Memorial Hospital and for Mobile Meals. She was active in Central Ohio Lions Eye Bank.
Survivors include two sons, R. Steven Bassitt and Timothy S. (Heather) Bassitt, both of Lima; a daughter, Katherine D. (Gary) Topp of Fredericksburg; seven grandchildren, Andrew (Wendy) Topp, Elizabeth Topp, Rebecca Topp, Laura (Jason) Blevins, Jaime Bassitt, Brittani Bassitt and Britton Kocher; and two great-grandchildren, Ayden Blevins and Brennen Topp. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Robert Sortman.
Services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
