Louise Sherrod Bassett
Louise Sherrod Bassett, 92, died June 27, 2009, at her home in Tallahassee. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Louise was born in 1917 in Thomasville, Georgia to Joe and Victoria Sherrod. She lived her early years in Thomasville,, Mayo and Madison. In February of 1942, she married Burt Bassett, a naval aviator from Monticello, who was on his way to war in the Pacific. They were married for 65 years, raised five sons and traveled extensively throughout the USA and the world. Louise was a very sweet lady who was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Burt Bassett, Sr.; sister, Leone Taylor of Mayo, Florida; and three brothers, Robert Sherrod, Olin Sherrod and Joe Sherrod, Jr. She is survived by five sons, Burt Bassett Jr. (Katie) of Columbia, South Carolina; Tim Bassett (Marie) of Ocala, Florida; Alan Bassett (Yolanda) of Roanoke, Virginia; Jeff Bassett (Karen) of Panama City, Florida; and Jonathan (Sonya) of Spoleto, Italy; seven grandchildren, Susan Scarboro (Jim) and Eric, Bassett, all of Tallahassee; Lisa of Atlanta, Georgia; Chris Bassett (Cheri) of Bonney Lake, Washington, Stacey Vail (Stephen) of Nashville, Tennessee; and Stephanie Brooks (Mike) of Manassas, Virginia; nine great-grandchildren; and Carrie Bassett of Tallahassee.
