      Decorated veteran of Korean War psychological consultant

      SOUTH DENNIS - Dr. Robert Delbert Crook, 69, died unexpectedly Friday at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

      He was the husband of Enid Bassett Crook.

      Raised in Waltham, he graduated from Waltham High School and studied veterinarian medicine at Kansas State University. He played quarterback for both schools' football teams.

      He left Kansas State University to enlist in the Arm was recommended to officer candidate school, graduating as second lieutenant. He later achieved the rank of first lieutenant and served as company commander for the 45th Infantry Division in Korea.

      Dr. Crook was award two Silver Stars and 2 Bronze Stars for gallantry in action and was also recommended for the Congressional Medal of Honor. In addition, he received two Purple Hearts for being wounded in action.

      Dr. Crook later received his undergraduate degree from the University of Tampa. He then enjoyed teaching biolog coaching football at Steven's High School in Claremont, N.H., before moving his family to Arizona where he received his graduate degree from the University of Arizona.

      After spending time in Foxboro, and Portsmouth, N.H., he settled in South Dennis where he ran his own psychological practice before working as a consultant in the Massachusetts school system.

      He enjoyed fishing and making up fish stories.

      Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Celine Crook-Fones of South Dennis three sons, Robert Delbert Crook Jr. of Wayland, Douglas Ellis Crook of Yarmouthport and Lincoln Thacher Crook of South Dennis a sister, Betty Zampell of Hollywood, Fla. a nephew and seven grandchildren.

      A memorial service is at noon Saturday at the Hyannis VFW, 2578 Airport Rotary, Hyannis.
