      Written by Darryl Woodson

Karin Elizabeth Bassett Goodbar went to be with our Lord and Savior Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016.

She was born on Aug. 17, 1965, in Hartford, Conn. She is preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Bassett, and mother, Sally Cuckow.

Her survivors include husband Perry Goodbar; daughter Mikaela Goodbar; son Preston Goodbar; brother Mark Bassett of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brother Chris Bassett of Calhan, Colo.; and sister Cathy Archuleta of Calhan, Colo.

Karin was born in Hartford, Conn., and moved to the Colorado Springs area with her mother and siblings in her junior high school years. She graduated from Ellicott High School in 1985 and was on the girls basketball and volleyball teams and on the cheerleading squad and participated in many other clubs and activities.

She graduated from Blair Junior College with an associate?s degree in hospitality and tourism in 1985. She worked for The Broadmoor resort where she met her husband of 22 years, Perry Goodbar. One of her fond memories of her time at The Broadmoor was representing the hotel on their parade float for the festivities and celebration of Pikes Peak?s 100th anniversary. The other occupant was internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter Lee Greenwood, whose hit song ?God Bless the USA? is still popular today.

Karin then worked for USAA in their Colorado Springs policy services division. After the birth of their first child, Mikaela, Karin stayed home to provide the love and support to both Mikaela and Preston. Karin volunteered with the children?s ministries at First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs, Colo. It was there she realized her talents (and patience) of working with young children. Over the years, she worked in the various school districts as a teacher?s aide and substitute teacher, including Jupiter, FL and Williamsburg, VA. Most recently she worked with Special Education students at James River Elementary School in the Williamsburg/James City County school district. She beamed with pride in knowing she was helping make a difference in those young children?s lives.

Karin was an avid Denver Broncos fan. She?ll be looking down on them this weekend and cheering them on in Super Bowl 50, as she celebrates her 50 years of living on this earth. Karin will be remembered for her big smile and warm and caring heart.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at Nelsen?s Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA.

A memorial service will occur at a later date in Colorado where her family and lifelong friends reside.

You can share your memories or express your condolences by signing the virtual guest-book found on the Nelsen Funeral Home Williamsburg, VA website. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the American Heart Association. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.nelsencares.com.
