Samuel Hondo Bassett
Samuel Hondo Bassett, aka Samuel Lee Deerinwater, was born Nov. 24, 1956, in Tulsa and passed away on Feb. 1, 2009, in Longview, Texas. He was 52.
Sammy lived most of his life in Texas. He was employed by Winston/F2S Corporation and currently resided in Kilgore, Texas.
Sammy was the son, grandson and nephew of the late Paul B. Bassett, Joe and Genevieve Littlecrow Bassett, Victoria Bassett Kent and Herman Bassett.
Survivors include his wife Sheila of the home in Kilgore; aunts, Martha Koshiway of Del City, and Mary Howry, Margaret Haley and Linda Francis of Red Rock; one uncle, Goodwin Bassett of Red Rock; and numerous extended family members.
Additional survivors include his stepchildren, Tanya Coronado and Michael Thomas of Longview, Texas, and Natasha Bazil of Idaho; son, Shane Deerinwater, and daughter, Felicia Deerinwater, both of Campti, La.; three grandchildren; brothers, Leon Deerinwater of Longview, Texas, and Donnie Deerinwater and Christy of Kilgore, Texas; and mother, Pat Deerinwater and husband Dick of Longview.
Sammy had made plans to visit his family in Red Rock this summer ... his death was unexpected, and he will be missed.
A traditional funeral feast will be held in Sammy's honor Sunday, March 29, at Otoe-Missouria Cultural Building, 8151 U.S. 177, Otoe-Missouria Tribal Complex.
